Getting healthy after a concussion: Evaluation of a smartphone app

Study Aim

We have developed a novel treatment to help adolescents recover after concussion! The treatment is delivered over a smartphone app, which makes is more accessible to you and your family. In this study, adolescents will get to use the treatment app for four weeks. Our study hopes to understand what adolescents like or don’t like about this new treatment app.

Who can participate?

Children/adolescents aged 12-18 years-old who:

  • Had a concussion at least one month ago
  • Are still experiencing symptoms from their concussion
  • Live in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions in British Columbia, Canada (e.g., Greater Vancouver Area, Fraser Valley, Squamish, Whistler)

What is involved?

Everything is completed online or over the phone! This means no in-person visits or traveling!  Children/Adolescents who participant will:

  • Complete some questionnaires online, which will take approximately 30 minutes.
  • You will download and use our treatment app 5-15 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. These treatments are behavioural, meaning that they will learn and practice new coping skills and activities. There are no medicines to take.
  • After 4 weeks, they will complete another set of questionnaires and an interview. During the interview, the research team will ask questions about their experience using the app. This will take 45-60 minutes.
